There are two new products of Nizoral and Dercos that may help prevent hair loss and stimulate new hair growth. Even though they are new and can be hard to find they may help with your hair loss problem.

Nizoral

Nizoral is a type of anti-fungal shampoo that kills seborrhea and dandruff causing fungi. There have been people that have found that Nizoral is a useful treatment for alopecia and it would seem that it was a substance for treating hair loss that was found by accident. Nizoral contains the chemical ketoconazole and it is known that when it is taken orally it inhibits androgens from binding in the human body and it also includes DHT from binding to hair follicle receptors.

But the use of ketoconazole is not recommended for several reasons and the main reason is it is a toxin and can be damaging to the liver. However the topical ketoconazole, which is in Nizoral shampoo, is shown to not work as well in the DHT binding to the scalp.

Therefore it may be likely that Nizoral is shown as another method to the effect of hair loss. One theory is that the anti-alopecia effects may be working upon the sebum. Sebum is a fatty type substance that grows around the scalp near the hair follicles. It is possible that removing sebum can help unclog the follicles of the hair and then expose it to more nutrition considering that there is an increase in the blood supply. Nizoral has been shown to both remove and reduce deposits of sebum.

Dercos

Dercos is a recent development from the L’Oreal labs that is a trade name for the product available as a shampoo as well as in tropical ampoules. One ingredient in Dercos is the drug Aminexil that L’Oreal claims can reverse the balding process. The researches at L’Oreal have found that no matter what is responsible for alopecia the loss of hair is always goes hand in hand with perifollicular fibrosis.

The condition of Perifollicular fibrosis causes the collagen that is around the roots of the hair to become rigid. After this happens the collagen becomes tight and it then will push the hair root to the scalp’s surface, which can cause premature hair loss. It is also a possibility that this condition can have an effect on the appearance of new hair follicles since they can’t form deep in the scalp. The development of Dercos has been shown to stop perifollicular fibrosis. In a study that was performed over an entire year 350 women and men that applied Dercos to their scalps for 8 weeks saw more hair growth rather than using a placebo. Because of this and now that Dercos can be bought over the counter, in both France and Germany, it has become a best selling product.
