Have a Hair-Friendly Daily Diet

The fact of the matter is that hair loss affects everyone, although in differing intensities. While most people (especially men with a genetic predisposition to androgenetic alopecia) consider hair loss as an inevitable occurrence, the rest treat it as commonplace, and they thereby take it for granted. If you think that the few strands of hair which settle on the bottom of your bathroom sink are trivial compared to your otherwise voluminous hair, think again – these may be signs of an unhealthy dietary intake. Your diet can obviously affect your health, but there are some foods which do contribute to healthier hair, and taking them in necessary amounts ensures that you keep your full head of hair for years to come.

Green, leafy vegetables are the frontrunners of the pack; these contain heaping amounts of vitamin nutrients, iron, and anti-free radical substances called antioxidants. Cabbages and broccoli are excellent sources of these, and the vegetables with darker shades of green are more nutrient-rich than others. Vegetables encourage the healthy blood circulation in your system; this affects your scalp’s health, and your hair’s growth in consequence.

Lean white meat contains healthy proteins which is an essential factor in healthy hair growth. You can obtain this in fish, as well as from white chicken meat (with the skin peeled off, of course); fish oils also contain antioxidants and amino acids. Lean chicken meat, on the other hand, provides you with enough protein, but without he fat; remember that hair strands are essentially made of protein, just like your cuticles.

Silica is an essential substance which also encourages better hair growth, and it is abundant in potatoes. Silica may also be obtained in beans and peppers (the red and green bell varieties). Vitamin E not only affords for younger-looking skin, it also promotes for a more voluminous hair growth, since it fights free radicals which intend to hamper the body’s healthy development; the result: lush hair which is full of texture and sheen.

Remember to keep yourself hydrated at all times, especially if you are on such a hair-friendly diet. Your body is already made up of ninety percent water, but you can’t get enough of it nonetheless; water is the best source of internal moisture for your scalp, and a well-hydrated scalp can maintain healthy hair strands, or replace fallouts with newer shafts. A mere eight glasses of water is sufficient enough to last for an entire day, but for those who are constantly on the go, try to take in as much as two liters of water for the entire day to obtain the best benefits from it.

Do avoid red meat, or you should at least cut down on its consumption. Some studies have evidenced that the production of the chemical which interferes with normal hair growth, DHT (the main cause for male-pattern baldness), is enhanced by a diet which contains significant amounts of red meat. If you can’t go vegan or vegetarian, you can at least try to cut back on your intake on meat produce which are high in fat, and go for food sources which contain more protein, such as whey. With healthy hair nutrients, not only do you grow a voluminous head of hair, you also maintain your body’s healthy well-being.
